Siuslaw National Forest
We offer the following guided day hikes in Siuslaw National Forest:
Niagara Falls Trail
- Trail follows a stream through lush foliage. The trail crosses four wooden bridges with a beautiful view of two 100-foot waterfalls, Niagara Falls and Pheasant Creek Falls. Niagara Falls is a plunge-type fall at 107 feet. Pheasant Creek Falls is a segmented type fall at 112 feet. A great hike for the spring. An unique time to view the many trilliums and ferns.
Pioneer-Indian Trail
- Experience open mountain meadows and heavily forested areas on this 8 mile trail that begins at at Hebo Lake Campground and ends at South Lake Dispersed Area.Native Americans and early settlers used this trail to travel from the Willamette Valley to the coast. The trail runs over the top of Mt. Hebo, providing wonderful views of the Pacific Ocean. Sections of the trail are located in the Mt. Hebo Special Interest Area.
Cascade head Inland Trail
- This trail runs north to south within the Cascade Head Scenic Research Area. The Sitka Spruce-Western Hemlock rain forest here has been studied by foresters since 1934.This trail is less crowded than the other two popular trails in the area – it is entirely inland and has no view points. Mid-way on the trail near the headwaters of Calkins Creek there remains a grove of six-foot diameter Sitka spruce. Trail has a forested backdrop with large Sitka spruce, Western hemlock, Douglas fir and Red alder.Trail is located within the Cascade Head Scenic-Research Area.
Drift Creek Falls Trail
- View this 75 foot horsetail type waterfall from a 240 foot suspension bridge that is 100 feet above the creek. A great trail to visit in the spring and fall after the rains have put water in the falls.
Harts Cove Trail
- This trail descends about 900 feet in elevation through a Sitka Spruce-Western Hemlock rain forest, crosses two seasonal creeks and ends at a prairie headland overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Chitwood Falls cascades off the backside cliff at Hart’s Cove. An unseen cove to the south resounds with the barking of sea lions. The strenuous trail traverses steep forested hillsides to a grassy meadow on the ocean’s edge.
