Mazama Glacier Itinerary
Day 1: Drive to Bird Creek Meadows parking lot (5,700 ft) in Yakima Nation, Washington. After checking in and paying fees, we will pack up and hike approximately four hours to Sunrise Camp (8,300 ft/2,530m). We’ll set up camp and enjoy a snack. Then, we’ll discuss equipment usage and glacier travel techniques. Finally, rest and enjoy the spectacular scenery or finish packing your summit bag while your guides prepare dinner.
Day 2: Wake up at 5:00 a.m. for a quick breakfast and depart for the summit around 6:00 a.m. Depending on weather, trail conditions and group pace, it can take anywhere from five to eight hours to summit. At the summit, you will have spectacular views of Goat Rock peaks, Mount St. Helens, Mount Rainier to the north, Mount Hood, the Sisters and Mount Jefferson. After descending the route, enjoy the afternoon relaxing at camp while your guides prepare a delicious dinner.
Day 3: Wake up at 7:00 a.m. enjoy breakfast, break down camp and hike to the vehicle by noon. We should arrive in Portland, Oregon by early evening.
**Rare Earth Adventures will make every attempt to follow the trip itinerary. However, this itinerary is subject to change due to group dynamics, unsafe weather and/or route conditions, or other reasons beyond our control.
