North Ridge (Clever Route) Itinerary

Day 1: Drive to the Trout Lake Ranger Station in Washington.  After checking in and paying fees, we will head to Kellen Creek Trailhead (4,600’/1,402m).  We will pack up and hike approximately 3 miles/5 km to the Pacific Crest Trail intersection.  From there, we will hike on Trail 10 for 1 mile/1.7 km to our high camp (6,840 ft/2,085 m). We’ll set up camp and enjoy a snack.  Then, we’ll discuss the climbing clinic for the next day and preview the skills that will be covered. Finally, rest and enjoy the spectacular scenery or finish packing your summit bag for the next day’s climb while your guides prepare dinner.

Day 2: Wake up at 5:00 a.m. for a quick breakfast and depart for the summit around 6:00 a.m. Depending on weather, trail conditions and group pace, it can take anywhere from five to eight hours to summit.  At the summit, you will have spectacular views of Goat Rock peaks, Mount St. Helens, Mount Rainier to the north, Mount Hood, the Sisters and Mount Jefferson.  After descending the route, enjoy the evening relaxing at camp while your guides prepare a delicious dinner.

Day 3: Wake up at 7:00 a.m. enjoy breakfast, break down camp and hike to the vehicle by noon.  We should arrive in Portland, Oregon by early evening.
